In 1995 a group of individuals made an attempt to start a black chamber of commerce in the city of Wichita Falls Texas, they were James Prince, Sr., Hollis Johnson, Brenda Jarrett, and Reginald Blow. It was named the Eastside Chamber of Commerce. They accomplished a lot but were unable to keep it going for various reasons.
The idea of starting another black chamber came about in March of 2016; starting with a phone call from Byron Lacy to J.W. Harris in order to pursue the idea. Within about 7 months a governing body was formed and the group began to take action in the formation of a new black chamber in the city of Wichita Falls under a new name the Wichita Falls Black Chamber of Commerce.
The group continued to work selecting officers, deciding the organizations purpose/mission, establishing articles of incorporation and bylaws. In March of 2017, they filed the documents with the Secretary of State and received official notification from the Secretary of State as of April 3rd 2017, and became a legal nonprofit entity in the State of Texas.
